  • Exposing the trafficking of otters in the exotic pet trade

We’ve investigated the growing demand for otters in Japan and Southeast Asia. Currently, demand is driven by the growing “otter craze” on social media and “pet cafes” in Japan – where we’ve uncovered serious welfare issues. It is evident that, to meet market demand, that supply is being supplemented by trafficked otters from Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. The welfare of pet otters and otters kept in entertainment cafes is being severely compromised. We’re building awareness and calling on the public to not like, share nor follow exotic pets on social channels and pledge not to visit cruel pet cafes when travelling.
